7 Health benefits of locust bean

Locust bean, commonly referred to as iru
by Yorubas, ‘ogiri’, ‘dawa dawa’ by Igbos,
is a local seasoning or condiment used in
soups and stews.
A very popular soup ingredient, globally, it is referred to as African locust bean with the botanical name as Parkia biglobosa.
It can be found in a wide range of
environments in Africa and is primarily
grown for its pods that contain both a
sweet pulp and valuable seeds.
The yellow pulp, which contains the seeds, is naturally sweet “and is processed into a valuable carbohydrate food known as sikomu and daddawa among the Yoruba and Hausa people respectively.

The most valuable parts of the locust bean are high in lipid (29%), protein (35%), carbohydrate (16%), and is a good source of fat and calcium for rural dwellers.

The seed is first cooked to remove the seed coat and then fermented to produce the desired result. When it is fermented, the Yoruba have a way of getting two types from it, the mashed type and the loose or free type, and they are used for different types of soups, but for the same purpose.

1. The fermented locust bean seed is used
in controlling diabetes and cholesterol level.
2. It helps to promote good sight and aids
digestion.
3. It is used for treating stroke and
hypertension.
4. The water and alcoholic extracts of
fermented locust bean is used to reduce
blood sugar.
5. It is used in the management of bacterial infections.
6. The locust bean contains tannins, which is often recommended for the treatment of diarrhoea.
7. It is a potential benefit for enhancing
weight loss.
The crushed bark of the locust bean tree
has also been revealed to help in wound
healing and serves as one of the ingredients used in treating leprosy. The
decoction of the bark is also used as bath
for fever and as a hot mouth wash to
steam and relieve toothache in Cote
d’Ivoire.

Trump finally admits it: 'President Barack Obama was born in United States'

Updated 19:37 GMT (0337 HKT) September 16, 2016
By Stephen Collinson and Jeremy Diamond , CNN
Story highlights.

Trump: 'Now we all want to get back to making Americastrong and great again'

Clinton says Trump should apologize for his role in birther movement.

Washington (CNN) — Donald Trump finally admitted
Friday that "President Barack Obama was born in
the United States," reversing himself on the issue
that propelled him into national politics five years
ago.
Trump sought to end his longstanding attempt to
discredit the nation's first African-American
president with just a few sentences tacked on at
the end as he unveiled his new hotel on
Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington.
But the issue isn't likely to die down any time soon
-- especially as Trump continues to falsely blame
Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton for starting the
"birtherism" controversy. Clinton said earlier Friday
that Trump's acknowledgment of Obama's
birthplace doesn't go far enough and that he must
also apologize.
"For five years, he has led the birther movement to
delegitimize our first black president," Clinton said
at an event in Washington. "His campaign was
founded on this outrageous lie."

Another defeat for Jose Mourinho

Feyenoord 1 – 0 Manchester
United: Jose Mourinho’s
men defeated

An undercooked and
under-performing
Manchester United started
their Europa League
campaign with a defeat as
Tonny Vilhena secured
Feyenoord a late victory.
A year to the day since
losing their Champions
League opener at PSV
Eindhoven, United
endured another night
to forget in Holland.
Their much-changed line-up boasted quality but
looked cumbersome and unwieldy in
Rotterdam, where Feyenoord snatched a 1-0
win through Vilhena’s strike.
It was hardly the response Jose Mourinho
craved after Saturday’s derby defeat at home to
Manchester City, with few of the eight changes
impressing at the imposing if partially-closed De
Kuip.
Anthony Martial’s fizzing strike wide was the
best United could muster in a lacklustre first
half that showed little sign of improvement
after the break.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Memphis Depay and Ashley
Young were thrown on as Mourinho attempted
to jump start his side, but their introduction
could not prevent United’s winless run
extending to a sixth European trip.
Instead, they left Holland pointless as the
Eredivisie leaders struck a decisive blow as
offside calls against Nicolai Jorgensen were
ignored and his cross was turned home
impressively by Vilhena.
This was United’s simplestt journey, as Istanbul-
based Fenerbahce and Ukraine’s Zorya Luhansk
lie in wait over the coming months, which is
part of the reason why Mourinho chose such a
strong side for the trip to Rotterdam.
It was an impressive show of strength but the
eight changes from the derby loss struggled,
rarely clicking into gear.
David de Gea saved a curling Steven Berghuis
effort and easily collected a Vilhena strike
during the opening stages, in which Paul
Pogba’s free-kick was easiy saved by Brad
Jones.
The former Liverpool goalkeeper had precious
little to do in the first half but will have
breathed a sigh of relief in the 24th minute
when Martial fizzed wide after a Matteo
Darmian cross.
It was United’s only moment of inspiration in a
tepid half that ended with Juan Mata just failing
to reach a Marcus Rashford header.
Unlike Saturday’s Manchester derby the United
boss refrained from any changes at the break,
from which Mourinho emerged around a
minute before his players and staff.
World-record signing Pogba flashed hopelessly
wide soon after play resumed, then Karim El
Ahmadi did better when coming close with his
own long-range effort.
Pogba had another attempt before Mourinho
made widespread changes, throwing on
Ibrahimovic, Depay and Young for Rashford,
Martial and Mata.
Despite the decision to change attack, the Dutch
side were looking most like scoring, with
Jorgensen blocked before Bilal Basacikoglu tried
his luck.
Feyenoord fans cheered when Depay missed
with a wild attempt, before the noise ratcheted
up several notches. Jorgensen appeared offside
when put through down the flank, making the
most of defensive disarray and cutting the ball
back to the edge of the box for Vilhena to turn
home.
An incredible din welcomed the goal, with every
tackle and missed opportunity cheered in the
closing stages. Young failed under pressure and
Ibrahimovic stung Jones’ palms with a long-
range free-kick, with Eric Bailly denied at the
near post before the final whistle.

Another pipeline blown up by a militant group

Militants blow up another pipeline; say Nigerian soldier scared to death, can’t swim

By Emma Amaize, Festus Ahon, Egufe Yafugborhi & Perez Brisibe, UGHELLI—

A militant group, Niger Delta Greenland
Justice Mandate, (NDGJM), in the early hours ofyesterday, blew up the Afiesere-Iwhrenene major delivery line to UPS/UQCC, operated by Nigerian
Petroleum Development Company, NDPC/Shorelines
Petroleum, in Ughelli North Local Government Area of
Delta State.
The attack, confirmed by a leader of the group, self-
styled Gen. Aldo Agbalaja, came as the Niger Delta
Avengers, NDA, which ceased hostilities, last month,
accused the military of harassing elderly men, women
and innocent youths in the region under the guise of
hunting for militants.
Meanwhile, Ijaw People Development Initiative, IPDI,
has warned that the Federal Government’s plan to
continue to militarize the region and intimidate the
people despite the fact that NDA and other dangerous
militant groups had opted for dialogue, will not make
the region to forsake the Niger Delta struggle.

Also, acting Secretary of Gbaramatu Traditional
Council, GTC, Chief Godspower Gbenekama, has
cautioned against the continued militarization of the
kingdom and other parts of the region, saying: “It is an
ill wind that blows the inhabitants of the Niger Delta
and the Federal Republic no good.”
We’re not fools —Militants
NDGJM, in a statement, said: “The Niger Delta is not a
conquered territory and our people have never
succumbed to intimidation before, rather we match
force with the oppressor’s brutality. The Nigerian
government should already know that the people of
these parts are not fools, who will not be able to see
when they are being treated with disdain.

“The high command of the Niger Delta Greenland
Justice Mandate, once again says to the deceptive and
untrustworthy Nigerian government and its cowardly
armed forces that our people shall not deal with you on
your terms, but on mutually agreed terms. Until you
drop this deceptive and master/servant poise, Operation
Crocodile Tears shall persist.
“As a mark of our decision to totally ground the
Nigerian oil economy, the gallant “OPUDO” strike
forces brought down the Afiesere-Iwhrenene major
delivery line in Ughelli North, leading to the UPS/UQCC
operated by NPDC/Shorelines at 1a.m., today

(yesterday).”
Yesterday’s attack came nine days after it warned
residents living around marked major oil and gas
facilities in the Niger Delta to vacate such areas and
threatened to detonate explosives at strategic points in
the region.
The militant group added: “Our patience is running out
on our people living close to major oil and gas facilities
in the upland areas of our region. The more critical
assets of the oil sector are still alive because we are
being careful not to hurt our people. For the last time,
leave these areas if you live around them and if you
love your lives.”

Why soldiers perished —NDA
Spokesperson of NDA, self-styled Brig-Gen Mudoch
Agbinibo, in series of picture tweets on his Twitter
handle, gave reasons for the death of personnel of the
Nigerian Army during the military’s Operation Crocodile
Smile in parts of the Niger Delta region.
NDA said: “They are scared to death because they
cannot swim, so they drown all the time. The Federal
Government is just killing innocent Nigerian soldiers.”
In a picture tweet showing four armed soldiers with a
paddler in a wooden boat, the group said: “With the
millions put into the Operation Crocodile Smile exercise,
see the dead boats given to them to fight militants.
“The only thing the soldiers are good at is harassment
of old men, women and innocent youths of the Niger
Delta.”

N-Delta won’t abandon struggle —IPDI
National President of IPDI, Austin Ozobo, in a
statement, said: “The military cannot intimidate Niger
Delta with Crocodile Smile , gun boats, fighter jets and
heavy deployment of military troops into abandoning
genuine struggle in the Niger Delta region.
“The continuous deployment of troops, fighter jets and
gun boats under the code-name Operation Crocodile
Smile, despite the ensuing truce by militants is meant to
intimidate Niger Delta people to abandon their demands
for their right of ownership of oil funds in the country,
but it will end up in fiasco as no amount of intimidation,
humiliation and harassment will stop the genuine
struggle in the region except drastic steps are taken to
address it.
“Buhari should stop forcing the Niger Delta to
continuously remain in a forced marriage. Nigeria does
not need a forced marriage because divorce will be the
answer to such union, no matter the delay. We can
never be deterred by the overwhelming security
presence in the Niger Delta to abandon the struggle for
true federalism and restructuring.”
Constitute dialogue team
Ibe-Benemowei of Gbaramatu Kingdom, Chief
Gbenekama, who commended the Federal Government
for releasing the Oporoza 10, last week, urged it to
reduce the military presence in the communities
because it was an ill wind that blows the inhabitants of
the Niger Delta and the Federal Republic no good.
“The military should please return all those artefacts
that were taken, including the boats of the Gbaramatu
Traditional Council and other things that were illegally
taken from our communities,” he said.
Gbenekama urged the Federal Government to “key into
the initiative of the Niger Delta people and constitute a
team to discuss the issues that are causing
disaffection in the region so that we can have lasting
peace.”

Advantages and Disadvantages of Globalization

Advantages and Disadvantages of Globalization.

Globalization is term used to describe the trend
towards countries joining together economically,
through politics, and education. Countries joining
together economically view their own selves not just
through their national identities, but as part of the
world as a whole.
Globalization has many benefits and disadvantages
and they are here to stay. Basically, the First World or
Global North countries are those that will benefit from
globalization. Rich countries like UK, Germany, and the
United States can sell more goods and products to
poorer markets on the Global South.
Local businesses and brands in developing nations
can go bankrupt as huge corporations in developed
nations can dominate the economy of their country.
Local traditions and cultures may change. People in
poor counties may no longer wear their cultural
costumes as they would want to look like the stars in
Hollywood.
Also, globalization has made it possible for non-
English speaking countries to learn speaking English.
More and more schools in developing nations are
teaching their students how to speak this global
language.

THE TOP 4 GLOBALIZATION ADVANTAGES
1. Globalization Increases Free Trade
Globalization has increased the free trade between
countries. The increases capital liquidity has allowed
investors in well developed nations to invest in
developing countries. Huge corporations from
developed nations have great flexibility to operate in
other countries.
2. Global Mass Media Ties World Together
The increased flow of communication has allowed
global mass media to tie the world together. Global
mass media has allowed vital information to be shared
between corporations and individuals around the
world. Globalization has also contributed to greater
speed and ease of transporting goods and people.
3. Eradicates Cultural Barriers
Countries joining together economically through
politics and education have reduced and can even
eradicate cultural barriers, and increase the global
village effect. Globalization has seen to be the medium
to spreading of democratic ideals to well developed
nations and greater independence to developing
countries in the Global South.
4. Reduction Of War
Reduction of war between well developed nations is
probably one of the primary benefits of globalization.

THE TOP 3 GLOBALIZATION
DISADVANTAGES
1. Decrease Environmental Integrity
Globalization has the potential to decrease the
environmental integrity as polluting corporations from
well developed countries can take advantage of
developing nations weak regulatory rules.
2. The Seek For Cheap Labor
Globalizations increases of non-skilled and skilled jobs
from developing nations to well developed countries as
huge corporations seek for cheap labor. This
economic trend can also increase the likelihood of
economic disrupt in a single nations, which could
affect all nations.
3. Limits Cultural Expressions
Globalization imposes threat to mass media being
controlled by huge corporations. This could limit the
cultural expressions. This means that mass media can
be used by handful corporations to pose risks in the
cultural heritage of both well developed and developing
nations.
Globalization is a global economical trend that is here
to stay. It has advantages and disadvantages, and
these things will not disappear. People just need to
know how to reap its benefits and reduce its risks.
People must understand its impact globally, and work
altogether to remedy the problems that may arise in
the future. All countries in the Global North and Global
South must work altogether to spread its benefits.

Paul Pogba'

Last Updated: Tuesday, September 13, 2016 at 14:35 UK
Jose Mourinho has revealed that he had to fight in order to
convince Paul Pogba to return to Manchester United .
Pogba, 23, completed a return to Man United on August 8
after the Red Devils agreed to pay Juventus £89.3m for a
player that left Old Trafford on a free transfer in the summer
of 2012.
Mourinho, who also arrived at Man United in the summer,
has claimed that "another big club" wanted to sign the
France midfielder and "it was hard to convince" Pogba to
make the switch to the 20-time English champions.
"Oh! It was hard to convince him," Mourinho told Goal.com .
"I had many [conversations] on the phone, lots of SMS. I
think he was getting one in the morning from the manager
from another big club and one in the afternoon from myself.

other one."
It is believed that Real Madrid are the team in question, with
the Spanish giants also linked with the 40-time French
international over the last couple of seasons.
